Frequently asked questions
Where does Shea Butter come from?
Shea Butter is a natural butter that is extracted from the seed of the Karite Tree in Ghana, where our group of experienced Ghanaian women handcraft this wonderful product.
What is the difference between Yellow Shea Butter and Ivory Shea Butter?
The natural color of Unrefined Raw Shea Butter ranges from an ivory to a slightly yellow color, but should never be pure white. Unrefined Yellow Shea Butter gets its color from the root of another African tree that is added during the milling process.
What is the difference between refined and unrefined Shea Butter?
Unrefined Shea Butter is normally extracted from the seed by hand to maintain the nutrients and beneficial properties naturally found in the butter.
Refined Shea Butter is processed using chemicals, such as hexane, a neurotoxin, to extract the butter from the seed. Refined Shea Butter is stripped of most of its beneficial properties during the refining process.
What is the difference between Adwi Organics Organic Raw Unrefined Shea Butter and the deeply discounted Shea Butter found in most hair and beauty supply stores, high-end retail stores or other brands found online?
All Shea Butter is not created equal. Some deeply discounted brands found online and in stores are mostly old and rancid and have lost most of the beneficial nutrients naturally found in Raw Unrefined Shea Butter. This is the main cause for such cheap prices, since the seller simply wants to get rid of the product in most cases.
On the other hand, many Shea Butters found in retail and high-end department stores are refined, meaning they've been stripped of most of the beneficial nutrients naturally found in Shea Butter and they are also filled with harsh chemicals.
Its important to only choose Premium Grade A Quality Raw Unrefined Shea Butter, like Adwi Organics' Shea Butter when shopping for yourself and family to avoid the health risks that go along with buying rancid or chemical filled butters.
Our Shea Butter is guaranteed fresh, pure and unrefined. You can feel confident that you've purchased quality Shea Butter when you buy our product.
Do you add chemicals to your Shea Butter?
Our Unrefined Raw Shea Butter, whether yellow or ivory, is always handcrafted under the same organic conditions and is never processed using chemicals or artificial coloring or additives. It is simply 100% Pure Raw Unrefined Shea Butter with nothing added to it or taken away from it.
Does Shea Butter clog pores? Is it safe to use on my face?
Shea Butter is non-comedogenic, which means that it does not clog pores. Therefore, it is excellent to use on the face as a daily moisturizer and night cream. It's famous for removing blemishes, repairing fine lines and wrinkles and giving the skin a youthful glow.
Can I use Shea Butter to treat my baby's acne or eczema?
Yes! Unrefined Raw Shea Butter is an excellent treatment for acne and eczema as well as many other common skin conditions. It is highly moisturizing and nourishing for the skin. Unrefined Raw Shea Butter contains high levels of Vitamin A which plays a major role in regenerating, repairing and moisturizing dry skin. Vitamin A also helps to smooth rough skin and correct skin discoloration, leaving brighter, healthier looking skin.
You can use Unrefined Raw Shea Butter to replace other brand named over-the-counter creams, which contain harsh chemicals that are unsafe for you and your baby's skin.
